The RNT (National Tourism Registry) or Registro Nacional de Turismo in spanish is an official document issued by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) and is mandatory for tourism businesses, including tour operators. Below, we explain what the RNT is specifically for tour operators:
What is the purpose of a tour operator's RNT in Mexico?
1. Legalize tourism activity
• It allows you to operate formally and legally as a tourism company before federal authorities.
2. Provide customer confidence
• By being registered, the tour operator appears in the official SECTUR directory, which provides certainty and confidence to national and international tourists.
3. Access to government support and programs
• It allows you to participate in fairs, training sessions, subsidies, promotion programs, and financing promoted by SECTUR and other agencies.
4. Official promotion
• You can participate in official tourism promotion campaigns both in Mexico and abroad.
5. Regulatory compliance
• It is part of compliance with tourism laws in Mexico. Failure to have an RNT can result in sanctions or loss of opportunities.
6. Access to agreements and alliances
• It facilitates establishing agreements with travel agencies, hotels, local governments, or other stakeholders in the sector, as many require registration with the RNT.
Who must have a RNT?
-Tour operators
-Travel agencies
-Tour guides
-Hotels and lodging
-Tour transportation companies, among others.
